What's in a Presentation Kit?

A Presentation Kit is made up of several components:

Basically, this is everything you would need to both present and record a professional learning opportunity.

What the Kit Does and Why you'd Use It

I'll turn this into a video for you at some point.

Presenting

Using the iPad, one of the iPad adapters (output to VGA or HDMI), and the Bluetooth speakers, you can present using the iPad. Keynote, PowerPoint and Google Slides are all available on the home screen for you to use in presentation mode. Each of these requires a login and each of the logins is different.

Honestly, I doubt that you will use this kit for presentation from the iPad very often. You're likely more familiar with presenting from a laptop so that will be easier for you.

Recording

Using the iPad, Swivl, and Tripod you can record what you do in a Professional Learning session or for an instructional video like you'll find in this course. These recordings can be exported to YouTube, close captioned, and shared or embedded from there.

What Works with Both Presenting and Recording

The PA system can be used when you are either presenting or recording. I wouldn't suggest using it when you're making an instructional video - the Tracker captures your voice for the video effectively enough. But if you're in a venue without a sound system, using the PA system will make you much easier to hear at the edges of the room. Research shows that amplifying your voice even when everyone in the room is fully hearing increases learning. Let me know if you want that research.

What you CANNOT do

Because the iPad is essental to both presenting from the Presentation Kit and recording, you cannot do both at the same time. So, if you need to record your session, you'll need another device with which to present, usually a laptop.

Checking a Kit Out

Please use the Equipment Checkout Form Links to an external site. to submit a request for a Presentation Kit and all other available equipment from OTLA.

Checking a Kit back in

When you are done using a Kit, you should return it IN ITS COMPLETELY FULL STATE to the Equipment Team in OTLA. Currently that team is first Melissa Garner and second Joy Blackwell. Do not return it to an unattended cube. If neither person is available, keep it in your custody until you can find one of them. If they are both out, check their cubes to see who is acting as backup for them.

The Equipment Team will check the contents of the box to be sure everything is there before accepting the return. It is your responsibility to make sure everything - including all the cables and batteries - are returned with the box. If something is missing, arrangements must be made for replacing the lost items before it can be returned.
