Activate Your Prior Knowledge
Observing students at work and play, listening as they discuss big and little ideas and reflecting on the material outcomes of their efforts can result in a robust world of insights for you and your students. These insights can be used to identify next steps in teaching and learning tailored to student needs, interests and assets. This process—of noticing, reflecting and taking action—is the formative assessment process. It is used to access and respond to real-time evidence of learning. With practice, it can support you to provide literacy learning experiences for your students pitched at just the right level and focus to accelerate their learning.
