The students in this video speak about two important ideas. First, it is important and meaningful when students participate and contribute to one another’s learning. Second, through this process, they support not only the learning of others, but their own learning as well.

The ideas that students share in this video speak to the importance of a classroom culture that supports formative assessment. In Week 1, you will further your knowledge of the key elements of a classroom culture through readings, a video, and completion of a culture inventory to identify areas of strength and next steps to further enhance the learning culture in your own classroom.

We also revisit the Fundamentals of Learning. Recall from Module 1 that the Fundamentals describe a framework for learning that grounds formative assessment. As we begin Module 5, we circle back to the ideas shared by the students in this video, which are consistent with the Fundamentals of Learning. The students in the video remind us that supporting one another allows them to participate and contribute in ways that further their ability to make meaning and manage their own learning.
